The Missions Board invites you to give a monetary donation to First Church with “Ukrainian Relief Fund” in the memo line. Through our denominational (UCC) partnerships, 100% of your donation will go towards relief for Ukrainian people still in the country (especially seniors and people with disabilities) and those who have fled to Poland. Please send a check with “Ukraine Relief Fund” in the memo line to First Church, 697 Main St, Harwich, MA 02645 or put it in the offering plate during worship.
Our outreach program includes a full 15% of all pledged gifts as well as special appeal collections in support of local, national and worldwide mission needs.
In March and April we are offering members and friends to put together “Boxes of Blessing” aka Shoeboxes for our friends who are not housed. Pick up a box after worship, it will have instructions, this list, and a note card so you can write a short note. You can decorate your box however you wish and then return it to church and Missions will donate the boxes to the homeless shelter in Hyannis.
First Church was a leader in the creation of the Harwich Ecumenical Council for the Homeless, addressing the housing problem of families in need, a first of its kind program in Massachusetts, moving families from motels to homes at a cost lower than the state funded motel housing. From these efforts followed the Children’s Center, providing low-cost daycare, as well as the Cape Cod Ecumenical Youth Ministries program, ministering to the needs of troubled youths.
In addition, Pine Oaks I, II and III offer 163 pleasant, affordable housing units for the elderly, an idea that began at First Church back in the 1970’s. Several of our members continue to play an important role on the Board of Directors of this independent non-profit outreach program today.
As you will discover, First Church is generous and caring, concerned and actively involved each year in meeting the spiritual and social needs of our community and beyond.
