Young Composers Workshop, July 11-Aug 6

A workshop in composing and songwriting, for ages 10-17, led by Marcia Hempel, Music Director and held at the First Congregational Church, Harwich Center. Marcia Hempel has arranged and composed music for First Church Harwich, and for the Harwich Women’s Chorus. She has written music for chorus, solo voice, piano, organ, and instruments.

This workshop includes instruction in:
-Piano improvisation
-Vocal improvisation
-Musical forms
-Songwriting skills
-Chords and harmony
-Melody writing
-Music notation

1 1/4 hours per week of private instruction, beginning the week of July 11, 2021 with a capstone concert the weekend of August 6, for a total of five weeks. The individual lessons will be scheduled according to each student’s schedule. Songwriting and also writing for piano and other instruments, will be possible projects to work on, but it will be up to the student and their interests.
